Kind of a drag.

I got killed, crash landed, got negative 1500 points, and started back at the beginning. Maybe Shoop deserves to live. It had its own style, though.

DesertMarch responds:

Shoop deserves nothing but death.

I made a pong game once.

And it was better than this, not gonna lie, but it also took me like four hours just to get the most basic, functional code together. I'm not saying that this is something that needed to be submitted (the genre really has been shit on like crazy and this game doesn't really bring anything new to the table), but the programming is sound, and it's not something that was done in a few minutes. I think that you'd have more success with a pong tutorial (even though that would mean an avalanche of shitty pong games).
If you're looking to improve this (besides the obvious fact that it needs better graphics and more to it), I'd say make the computer AI a little weaker- throw in some random mistakes once in a while.
Man, if you want to see a pong game, you should see this monster I started working on before I finally decided that it was too much and moved on to new things.

nabibrian responds:

Fair enough. Thanks for the review!

Waaaaaayyy too many problems.

I liked the scope, but there was just too much wrong with this game. When the player clicks on an enemy, try this code:

_global.killCount=0
onPress=function{
if(this.dead!=true){
this.dead=true
_global.killCount++
}
if(_global.killCount>=3){
_global.killCount=0
this.dead=false
this.gotoAndStop(1)
_root.nextFrame()
}
}
That should take care of the enemies staying dead thing, and then you won't need that lame button in the bottom right corner to move to the next level.
Also, That black box with the hole in the middle? Make it bigger- when it moves too far left or right, the background shows.

Robotcow responds:

thanks a lot

Sorry, I thought it was kind of a mess.

It wasn't terrible, but I wouldn't call it good. The feedback was kind of weird- my shots went right through the enemy ships. Sometimes they blew up when the shots went through, sometimes they didn't. I don't know if they were wearing down the shields or what, but some sort of visual feedback would have been really nice. I even tried using the dick bullets to see if that would fuck shit up a little faster, but to no avail. Lastly, I don't think that customizing the bullets/asteroids/ship from the main menu was really necessary. Maybe making those unlockable, with different effects, would have been dope. As it stood, it was just silly.

Lambtaco responds:

They were wearing down the ships. The ships vibrate faster and faster depending on how much they've been damaged. Maybe I should have pointed that out. And whether or not the customization was neccessary, it was easy (for me to do). There are some skins than are unlocked when you complete story mode. And it's supposed to be silly.

Anyway, I didn't exactly pour my heart and soul into this, so I'm not gonna bitch about it.

ActionScript needs work.

The ball "stutters" as the platform moves down, if it's resting on a platform. I'd recommend writing code that forces the ball's y-position to change at the same speed as the platforms, if it's not in the air. Simple fix, and it'll make your game look cleaner. And you know you can use the magnifying glass in Flash to make your art a little more detailed, right?

Patacorow responds:

I totally agree with you.

Seemed unfinished.

If you use PNG-24's instead of GIFs for your images, you won't have to worry about those nasty-looking white outlines.

Mukongo responds:

thaks i gonna take that in the next version

I don't get it.

I get the game, and what you were trying to do, and all that. I just don't get why you wanted to do it in the first place. There's really not much I can offer in the way of constructive criticism here. I've had more fun at the DMV, sadly enough. There's more to do there.

BinaryGuy responds:

Ill make an RPG game like that!
